Newcomers and Visiting Scholars

The Fitzwilliam Museum is the largest and oldest of the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM).  Founded in 1816, thanks to the bequest of Cambridge student Richard Fitzwilliam (1745–1816), 7th Viscount Fitzwilliam of Merrion, it now houses a world-renowned collection of over half a million works of art and historical artefacts, dating from the ancient world to the present day. Vicky’s talk will give a very brief introduction to ‘The Fitz’ and an overview of its collections in the hope that this will inspire you to visit this wonderful free resource of national importance on your doorstep!
